Hello All,
I've had Squeezebox since the original Slim Devices SB3. In fact, my first SB3 remains in service, although we now have four SB3/Classics. We had a SB-Touch but it failed outright while still quite young.
Halloween is a big event around our home, requiring the use of two SB to deliver outside music/effects and inside background music. Historically I've moved gear around to meet these needs, but I'm thinking that I'd like to have the gear in place permanently. That implies buying a couple more SB devices.
This potential raises some questions. Would I be better off to buy SD Duet and plan on controlling the from the web I/F? Since they are a newer model would the6y be less likely to suffer problems with electrolytic capacitors that SB3/Classics? I presume that they would fit seamlessly into the installation.
Or...would I be better off to abandon Logitech hardware and use a small embedded computer (Fit-PC, of cheap nettop) running a software player like SoftSqueeze?
Opinions?
Thanks,
Michael Graves

Posted here on the off chance it might be useful to now or in future.
I've always been a big fan of Squeezebox devices. I had a Slimp3 just after it was released in the UK. Next to another video based device it was great. It just worked. Since then I've bought multiple Booms and Radios and encouraged other people to do the same. I also have a Duet. (My love for all things Squeeze was cemented with Slimp3 - I emailed a query about transcoding, thinking I was communicating with a black hole. No so; a quick response from one of the main developers was the best advert I could thing of.)
The Duet. Compare to everything else it was okay. When it worked. It was flaky. Usable but not consistently. Not as spouse friendly as everything else. The connection animation was quite a familiar sight. Waiting was not unusual. Hard resets common.
I read forums here of similar experiences. Took with a pinch of talk comments about Wi-fi quality. Everything else (laptops, phones, etc.) would work fine in the same place and presumably under greater load. After all, what the duet actually doing.
However, after a recent accidental change (a change in LMS server hardware meant the Duet gave up where everything else barely noticed) it's stopped connecting. After a quick fix it's now like a new device. It's always connected; it's always responsive. It's insensitive to router reboots (previously I'd expect a reset to be necessary).
So far so much TLDR. So the short version: my Duet (ymmv) has been transformed since setting my router's wifi from wpa/wpa2 to be fixed to wpa2 only. There may be other issues; there have been other effects but the Duet is now a source of joy where it wasn't previously.
I'm not criticising Logitech in any way (well, they could make more of these things... :) - everything else has been consistently great. A Boom or Radio (or now Duet) with the iPlayer plug-in is life-transforming in a good way that makes technology a good thing.
So: Wifi - WPA2 only. Worked for me. Might else someone else.
Andrew.

Hi!
I have been using my Squeezebox Duet for many years now, but recently it is having problems. The controller will report that it can not connect to my computer, the light on the player is yellow. I am only able to resolve the problem doing a factory reset, during which I have to push the button on the player until it blinks red. Then I can use the system for one or two days until the problem occurs again. I am running version 7.7.3 of the Logitech Media Server. I am quite certain my WiFi router is not the problem, I have just replaced it with an advanced new model and that did not do anything noticable with respect to the network conncection problem.
I hope someone can help me. Performing the factory reset is time consuming and too much to ask from my wife and children, who also like to use the squeezebox.
Regards,
Frans

Hello all. I'm stuck with the slow blinking red light which should mean my receiver will be seen by the Logitech Squeezebox Duet Controller, right? Wrong. I've unplugged receiver, held the front button. It won't move to a fast red nor will it cycle through other colors. Now, I have two of these receivers. The one upstairs is seen by the Controller. My iPhone 6 (which has Peng 8 app on it) is seen by the Controller but only intermittently. (Mostly when the phone is right next to the Controller). The downstairs receiver - the one stuck on slow blinking red light - is seemingly dead.
I've got a Mac Pro (late 2013 version). I'm running Yosemite aka 10.10.1 - the latest. I have a new Airport Extreme 802.11ac, 6th generation router. Everything else is working fine with this router. Apple blurb: "On June 10, 2013, the AirPort Extreme Base Station was updated to support the 802.11ac protocol. Retaining the same name, the new model underwent a redesign from the five previous generations. With a smaller footprint of 3.85 inches square and 6.6 inches tall, it now has a 64% smaller footprint than the previous generation. Additionally, Apple has configured the new model with six antennas. Three are designated for the 2.4 GHz spectrum and three for the 5 GHz spectrum."
A call to Logitech suggested the problem might be with my network. I doubt that. I moved the red light unit upstairs and the good unit downstairs without changing their power supplies. The working upstairs unit (now downstairs with the downstairs power supply) continued to work fine. The red light unit that is now upstairs (with the upstairs power supply) continues to seem "dead".
Resetting the Controller to Factory settings did not work. Resetting the Controller whilst holding down the red button didn't work either.
I need this to work ASAP for the holidays. I've tried reviving the receiver with Logitech manual help and many online tips but nothing is working. We had a nasty couple of days here in the Northeast of the U.S. and power outages. Our power went down hard several times. Although both receivers are on power supplies does it seem to anyone out there that one of mine just died?
Would Logitech either swap this out of warranty Logitech Squeezebox Receiver for me OR do they sell factory repaired replacements?
HELP!
Thanks!

I updated my Logitech Media Server to Version: 7.7.5 on a QNAP TurboStation TS-219 but not sure how to update the software on my Duet controller, it is still showing 7.7.3.

There's no built-in feature to save tracks to playlists. Maybe you were
using some 3rd party plugin? Or one particular music service?

All of a sudden my duet has to switch libraries when I change from my music to pandora or sirius. It's never had to do this before, what's changed. Now if I want to listen to pandora it switches to mysqueezebox.com and then it has to switch back to my pc to listen to my music library

Hello,
I am new to this forum and would appreciate some help with my system. It has worked for years, but I think I have messed it up and some help from someone familiar with the Duet setup please.
Everything worked OK until I moved house. Problems started with a faulty power supply on the NAS which caused disks to fail and I then started playing with things (not knowing what I was doing) until I diagnosed the power supply.
I have a QNAP TS209 running with 3.3.3 and Squeezebox 7.5.1. I cannot get my Duet to talk to the server and locate my music. My Duet has a blue LED indicating it can see the network. I can see my Duet from MySqueezebox.com and with my PC connected directly to the 209 or from my wireless network, I can open squeezebox server from my PC and see the music files. I can successfully stream music via Twonky to my TV. I am using wireless and no firewalls.
Things started to go wrong when I upgraded to 7.6.1.
I have downgraded my firmware to 3.3.2 and even back to 1.1.5 but nothing changed, now it is at 3.3.3. Yesterday I tried to install LMS 7.7.2 and each time it failed at 50% exactly. If I try to select 7.6.1 via QPKG and 09 ARM, then the version offered is 7.5.1. This installs OK.
What I really need to know is what are the hardware and software versions I should be using for the QNAP, the Logitech Server (or Sueezebox server) and the logitech controller.
I think I have an incompatibility somewhere, or should it all work great with the laterst and greatest.
I would appreciate any help to get this working again.
Regards
Neil

Hello Forum users,
I am a Duet user for more than 5 years now and now have a Premium Spotiy account to get into music streaming. I'm use my Synology NAS as LMS. There I have installed the Triode 3e party plugin to be able to stream Spotify Music. After setting the account data I was able to start the menu on the Duet controller and every thing look good.
The trouble is when I start to hit the PLAY button the following error shows at the LMS log. The result of this error is that there is no music. Cover art is showing :
[14-12-13 12:01:02.9149] Plugins::Spotify::ProtocolHandler::handleDirectErr or (366) stream failed - bad player: -1
Can any one help me get this solved ?
Thanks in advance.

I have a SB Duet which is connected over WiFi to a ReadyNAS Duo (V1) drive. All IPs are fixed.
It has been running fine until recently when my NAS lost contact with everything - PCs as well as SB - and to recover I needed to do a firmware re-install. Without doing a complete re-build of the ReadyNAS I am unable to change any settings as the Frontview interface has corrupted. I'll be on the hunt for a 2TB drive in the New Year's sales to let me do this!
In the meantime I can only access my music when one of the PCs is on and running LMS. The laptop (Vista) doesn't have a full library as running a rescan is taking an awfully long time (currently has been running 4.5 hrs to scan 1 tenth of my music - 16000 titles). My desktop (Win7) is in an upstairs office/spare bedroom and is hardwired to the NAS drive so a full scan takes less than an hour. The SB is downstairs and has a pretty good signal from the router (>70% signal strength).
Any ideas what changes I should make to the SB setup to allow access direct to the NAS without needing a PC to be on?

> Sorry, I'm illiterate regarding the technical side. What's LMS?
Logitech Media Server (formerly known as slimserver, Squeezebox Server,
SqueezeCenter), the software you can run on your computer to stream your
music files to your Squeezebox. And do other tricks like transcode
streams not supported by your player to something they do understand.

Hi All,
I do not see a separate forum for the Squeezebox Classic, but it's similar to the Duet.
I have 1 Squeezebox Classic 3 and 3 Squeezebox radio's.
When I connect it all to a Synology NAS, DSM 5.1, Logitech Media Server 7.7.3-040, all works, but the Squeezebox Classic reboots every now and then (mostly every 30 minutes).
In this setup the Squeezebox Classic runs firmware 137.
When I connect the Squeezebox Classic to another Synology NAS, DSM 4.0, Synology SqueezeCenter 7.5.1, all works fine, no reboots.
In this setup the Squeezebox Classic runs firmware 130.
My guess is it's the firmware that causes the reboots.
Is anybody else having issues like this?

Hi,
I installed 7.9 server and my apps are not found. I test the Triode Spotify app and all pass until the last one and i I get No player found. The server says no player found but my library plays normally.

I'm about to replace my DSL router (migrating to FTTC, Tuesday coming).
The current router (ZyXEL P-660HW-T1 v2) is set to WPA2-PSK and my Squeezebox Duet has worked perfectly since I installed it. Both controller and player are WiFi connected, though I could change the player to wired, if necessary.
The new router (ASUS RT-AC87U) offers (amongst others):
WPA/WPA2 Personal/WPA Auto-Personal. You can use WPA with TKIP or WPA2 with AES
Am I right in assuming that WPA2 Personal on the new router corresponds to WPA2-PSK on the old router? I'm pretty sure it does, but I'm feeling a little apprehensive about the router switch.
The telecoms engineer pays a visit, and installs the new DSL modem to enable the FTTC. I suspect that after this, I wouldn't be able to fallback to my old router should I encounter problems, hence my questions here.
Does anyone here have an ASUS RT-AC87U, or equivalent, and a working Duet setup?

Hi,
I have a squeezebox duet. I want to add new clients to the wireless network but nowadays these are typically 802.11 n. Obviously I don't want to start again with a 802.11.n wireless music solution
I am currently running an old D-link ADSL Modem/Wireless router to provide WAN and LAN facilities.
Can anyone tell me how I can set up separate wireless networks for squeezebox (g) and and other (n) clients? Obviously I'm going to need to buy a new router, but what is the best way to go. None of the proposed n clients are capable of dual band operation
I'm sure this must have come up before but I can't see it with a search.
Thanks
