"newer" is relative :-). 10.11 is pretty old. And even if you get LMS to
run you should try to update the OpenSSL libraries, as those installed
must be ancient.
Anyway: please try to run the following in a terminal:
/Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/server/slimserver.pl
If it's complaining about the log file not existing, or LMS not having
permissions to create it, then download the following file, extract and
run it. It should fix the permissions:
